In April 2025, Icelandair carried 381,000 passengers, a 24% increase from April 2024. This brings the year-to-date total to over 1.2 million passengers.
Of April’s travelers, 29% were headed to Iceland, 19% departed from Iceland, 47% were via passengers connecting through Keflavík, and 5% flew domestically within Iceland.
The airline expanded capacity by 25%, measured in available seat kilometers, compared to last year. Passenger traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometers, also grew by 25%.
Icelandair achieved an 81% load factor, reflecting strong demand. On-time performance hit 91%, a 3-percentage-point improvement from April 2024’s already impressive results.
Charter flight operations thrived, with sold block hours surging by 82%. Freight transport, measured in Freight Ton Kilometers, rose by 12%. Sustainability efforts also progressed, with CO2 emissions per Operational Ton Kilometer dropping by 3%, aligning with Icelandair’s environmental goals.

Bogi Nils Bogason, Icelandair’s President and CEO, expressed pride in the results. “April was another outstanding month, with passenger numbers up 25% year-over-year. We increased capacity by 25% by starting our second connection bank at Keflavík earlier.”
“This strategy supports growth beyond peak season, balancing demand and optimizing our infrastructure year-round. The Easter holiday’s timing further boosted demand across our international routes.”
Bogason emphasized Icelandair’s strong connection with Icelandic travelers, noting a 37% rise in passengers flying from Iceland. Travel to Iceland grew by 30%, while via passengers increased by 21%. “This growth, with stable yields, generated strong revenue,” he added.
Operationally, Icelandair excelled despite its largest-ever April schedule and the busy Easter period. “Our 91% on-time performance highlights our team’s commitment and focus on efficiency,” Bogason said. This reliability strengthens Icelandair’s reputation as a trusted carrier.
