Icelandair will increase its North American presence with the launch of new service to Miami, Florida. Beginning October 25th and continuing through March, the airline will operate three weekly flights to Miami, departing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

This new route will be serviced by Icelandair’s new Airbus A321LR aircraft. It will offer passengers a comfortable experience with an estimated flight duration of eight hours.

The A321LR will be the successor of Icelandair’s Boeing 757. The 757 has been the backbone of the airline’s fleet for decades. The new Airbus aircraft will seat 187 passengers, 22 in Saga Premium and 165 in Economy.

Miami as Second Florida Gateway

Florida has long been a favored winter destination for Icelandic travelers, drawn to its warm climate and vibrant attractions.

With existing service to Orlando, Miami will now become a second Florida gateway. The route addition further strengthens Icelandair’s commitment to serving this important market.

Miami becomes Icelandair’s 19th destination in North America, solidifying the airline’s growing presence on the continent.

The world recognizes the city for its stunning beaches, from iconic South Beach to the tranquil shores of Key Biscayne. Beyond the sun and sand, Miami boasts a dynamic cultural scene. It boasts a thriving arts community, and a vibrant nightlife that caters to diverse tastes.

Bogi Nils Bogason, Icelandair President and CEO gave comment on the new Florida route. “Icelandair is thrilled to offer this new gateway, connecting Europe to the vibrant energy of Miami via Iceland. It provides Miami with convenient access to Iceland and beyond,”

“The introduction of the new, long-range, fuel-efficient Airbus A321LR aircraft has enabled us to strategically expand our network and add exciting destinations such as Miami.”

“This new route seamlessly integrates into Icelandair’s existing network. It provides passengers with convenient connections through Iceland to the airline’s 34 destinations throughout Europe. We are confident that this new service will be well-received by both leisure and business travelers. We warmly welcome Miami to the Icelandair family.”

Transatlantic Expansion

The launch of Miami service underscores Icelandair’s continued growth and strategic development in the North American market. Icelandair provides passengers with more travel options and seamlessly connects them between continents.

Furthermore, the addition of Miami service complements Icelandair’s broader strategy of expanding its transatlantic offerings.

By leveraging its unique hub in Iceland, the airline efficiently connects passengers traveling between North America and Europe.

Partnership with Southwest Airlines

Earlier this month, Icelandair and Southwest Airlines formalized a strategic partnership, further enhancing connectivity for passengers.

This agreement will facilitate seamless connections between the two airlines’ extensive networks, with sales and travel through Baltimore commencing in February.

As the largest domestic carrier in the United States, Southwest Airlines offers unparalleled reach across North America, and Icelandair becomes its inaugural airline partner.
