Iberia Adds New Long-Haul Routes to Orlando, Recife and Fortaleza

Iberia will expand its long-haul network with Orlando, Florida and Recife and Fortaleza, Brazil to be served by its new Airbus A321XLR later this year.

Iberia has unveiled a strategic expansion of its long-haul network with the addition of three new destinations.

The first of these will be Orlando, Florida, which will launch on 26 October with four weekly flights.

However, Iberia’s big bet for the next season will be Brazil, where it will launch two new destinations – Recife and Fortaleza.

This ambitious move promises to connect travelers with vibrant cultures and sought-after locales, solidifying Iberia’s position as a leading global airline.

Orlando Florida Beckons

Kicking off the expansion on October 26th, Iberia will launch a highly anticipated route to Orlando, Florida. Subject to government approval, this service will feature four weekly flights, utilizing the spacious and comfortable A330 aircraft, boasting a capacity of 254 passengers.

This translates to over 46,000 seats available during the winter season, providing ample opportunity for travelers to experience Central Florida.

Orlando is a premier tourist destination, renowned for its world-famous theme parks, acting as a portal to unparalleled entertainment and family fun.

Beyond the thrill rides, Orlando is a hub for the space industry, anchored by Port Canaveral. The city also hosts the Orange County Convention Center, a significant venue for international exhibitions, conferences, and meetings.

María Jesús López Solás, Director of Sales, Customers, Network Development and Alliances at Iberia gave comment for the airline. “We are truly pleased to announce the opening of these three new routes next winter season. Thanks to our relationship with Disney Destinations, we believe Orlando can become the star destination for the upcoming Christmas season.”

Kevin J. Thibault, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, which manages Orlando International Airport, added comment. “We are delighted to welcome Iberia to MCO and its new non-stop service from Madrid.”

“This partnership between Iberia and MCO has been a long time in the making and reflects our commitment to further promote global connections. Thanks to our capable Air Services Development team and the skilled Iberia team for helping to strengthen the cultural and economic ties between these two popular destinations.”

Brazil’s Tropical Charm: Recife and Fortaleza

However, Iberia’s most significant focus for the upcoming season lies in Brazil, where it will significantly expand its presence.

Building upon its existing services to Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, with 14 and five weekly frequencies respectively, Iberia will introduce two new destinations, bringing the total to four.

On December 13th, 2025, Iberia will inaugurate flights to Recife, initially offering three weekly frequencies, which will increase to five starting in February.

Following closely behind, on January 19th, 2026, flights to Fortaleza will commence, also starting with three weekly frequencies and increasing to four in February.

A321XLR Operations

These new routes will be serviced by the cutting-edge A321XLR aircraft. This is a recent addition to Iberia’s fleet, launched globally in November 2024.

This narrow-body aircraft, with a range of up to 7,500 kilometers in Iberia’s configuration, is a game-changer for long-haul travel.

It is one of the most fuel-efficient aircraft on the market, boasting fuel savings of over 40% compared to wide-body models.

It also maintains the high comfort standards associated with Iberia’s long-haul fleet, including the A350. The A321XLR features the new Airspace cabin and offers two classes, Business and Economy, with a total of 182 seats.

“We believe Brazil has great potential, beyond the major cities we already serve. With the addition of the new A321XLRs, we can explore new routes across the Atlantic, assess their acceptance, and gradually adapt supply to demand,” explained López Solás.

With these new routes, Iberia will offer nearly 284,000 seats between Spain and Brazil during the 2025-2026 winter season, flying to four destinations: Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Recife, and Fortaleza, marking a significant expansion and a testament to the airline’s commitment to connecting people and cultures.
