Hong Kong Airlines has resumed its direct Vancouver service, marking a significant milestone with celebrations at both Hong Kong and Vancouver International Airports on 18 January 2025.
The return of this popular route signals the carrier’s growing presence in the North American market and its drive to international expansion.
The relaunch ceremony at the Hong Kong boarding gate brought together Hong Kong Airlines’ senior management and Airport Authority Hong Kong representatives.
The group welcomed passengers and presented them with special commemorative gifts. The festive atmosphere highlighted the importance of this route restoration for both cities’ aviation sectors.

Vancouver: First North American Destination
Hong Kong Airlines Chairman Mr Yan Bo spoke during the festivities. “Vancouver holds special significance for us as our first North American destination. It originally launched in June 2017.”
“Reinstating this popular route not only gives passengers more travel options. It also signifies our successful transformation from a regional to an international carrier. This milestone strengthens our confidence in expanding our global network and reinforces our commitment to connecting Asia with North America.”
The airline has enhanced the passenger experience by introducing specially curated Hong Kong-style meals onboard.
The menu features diverse Chinese, Western, and vegetarian options in both business and economy classes. This ensures that travelers can enjoy authentic cuisine that reflects Hong Kong’s unique culinary heritage during their journey.
“Our Airbus A330-300 aircraft deliver an exceptional long-haul experience on the Hong Kong-Vancouver route,” explained Hong Kong Airlines President Mr Jeff Sun.
“Travelers from both regions will appreciate our attentive service and culinary offerings, which reflect our customer-first approach. This service reinforces our ambition to become a leading full-service carrier both regionally and internationally, setting new standards in air travel comfort and convenience.”

Hong Kong Airlines Network Growth
The airline has shown remarkable growth through strategic improvements and expansion in recent years. Its optimized route network now connects over 30 destinations, with flight frequencies matching pre-pandemic levels.
The airline achieved an impressive 85% average passenger load factor last year, serving more than 5 million travelers, demonstrating strong recovery and passenger confidence in the carrier’s services.
To support continued growth, Hong Kong Airlines plans to expand its fleet, enabling greater operational flexibility and enhanced network coverage.
This expansion will offer passengers convenient connections across mainland China, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia through Hong Kong, while also serving major destinations in Australia, the United States, Canada, and Europe.
The diverse fleet configuration will allow the airline to better match aircraft capacity with route demands and passenger preferences.
