A Hong Kong Airlines Airbus A330-300 bound for Fukuoka, Japan from Hong Kong diverted to Taipei, Taiwan 24 November 2024. The precautionary diversion was carried out after flight crew reported a suspected fuel leak.
Hong Kong Airlines flight HX640, operated by an Airbus A330-300, was enroute to Fukuoka Airport (FUK). The aircraft was conducting a scheduled service from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).

En route in cruising flight, flight crew made the report of a suspected fuel leak. The diversion to nearby Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) was then carried out as a precaution.
The flight subsequently landed on runway 05L Taoyuan International Airport approximately 40 minutes after initiating the diversion.

Flight data shows that a flight HX640 had made an on-time departure out of Hong Kong at a 0928 local time on 24 November.
Following departure, the flight had proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL370 (37,000 feet) for the service to Fukuoka, Japan. The aircraft was in cruising flight at FL370 when the diversion to Taipei was conducted.
The aircraft conducting the HX640 from Hong Kong was an Airbus A330-300, registered B-LNR. This is a 14.8 year old wide body aircraft belonging to the carrier Hong Kong Airlines.
It has been in operational service with the airline since July 2016. The aircraft was previously operated by Singapore Airlines from its initial delivery from the factory in March 2010.
