Heart Aerospace, a leading Swedish hybrid-electric airplane manufacturer, is preparing to take a key step in its electric aircraft development program with a maiden flight in Plattsburgh, NY.

The company plans to conduct the first fully electric experimental flight of its demonstrator aircraft, Heart Experimental 1 (Heart X1). The testing location has been nominated as Plattsburgh International Airport, NY in 2025.

ES-30: Preparing for Flight

The upcoming experimental flight represents a critical point in Heart Aerospace’s ambitious development of the ES-30. The aircraft is a 30-seat hybrid-electric regional passenger aircraft. Once airborne, the Heart X1 is poised to become the largest fully electric aircraft to take flight. It will showcase the company’s innovative electric propulsion technology.

The ES-30 aircraft offers an impressive environmental profile, featuring an all-electric range of 200 kilometres and an extended hybrid range of 400 kilometres. This breakthrough promises unprecedented sustainability and efficiency for short-haul routes, potentially transforming regional air transportation.

Plattsburgh International Airport Selection

Plattsburgh International Airport (PBG) emerged as the ideal location for this ground-breaking flight. Situated in the Champlain Valley, the airport provides an optimal environment for next-generation transportation testing.

Its expansive airfield, low air traffic density, and strong community support for technological innovation make it a perfect testing ground for electric aviation.

Heart Aerospace’s co-founder and CEO Anders Forslund gave comment about the project: “We’re pushing the boundaries of air travel towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. Electric commercial airplanes can potentially lower operating costs for US airlines, revitalizing regional air routes and stimulating local economies.”

Mark Henry, Clinton County Legislature Chairman, highlighted the regional significance of the decision. “Heart Aerospace’s choice of Plattsburgh reflects our strong commitment to advancing next-generation transportation technologies. We are proud to be strengthening our position as a transportation manufacturing cluster.”
