A Hawaiian Airlines flight departing from Kahului for Portland has declared an emergency, squawking code 7700 shortly after departure.
Hawaiian Airlines flight HA40, operated by an Airbus A321neo, declared a general emergency before conducting a diversion to Honolulu.

Flight crew squawked code 7700 as the aircraft passed through 10,000 feet on descent from FL330. The climb procedure had been terminated after departure and a direct diversion to Honolulu was then carried out.
The nature of the emergency prompting the diversion is not yet known.

Having expedited a diversion to Honolulu earlier today, Hawaiian flight HA40 has now landed runway 08L Honolulu International Airport (HNL).

Flight data shows that Hawaiian Airlines emergency flight HD40 had departed from Kahului Airport (OGG) at 13:03 local time today. After departure the flight had set course and had climbed to FL330 before entering a brief holding procedure.
A descent was then initiated and a direct track to Honolulu was initiated. Flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 as the flight descended through 10,000 feet at 00:27 UTC.
The landing at Honolulu International Airport was made approximately 20 minutes later.

This is a 6.8 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging the the carrier Hawaiian Airlines. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in June 2018.
