Hamad International Airport (DOH) continues its impressive trajectory as a global aviation leader. The first quarter of 2024 marked its most successful period yet, exceeding all prior records set in 2023.
Passenger traffic surged by a remarkable 27.6%, with significant growth also seen in aircraft movements (23.9%) and cargo operations (15.4%).
Passenger Traffic Boom
In total, passenger numbers for Q1 2024 reached a staggering 13,171,540. This translates to 4,533,212 passengers in January, followed by 4,368,710 in February and 4,269,618 in March.
Aircraft movements also saw a significant year-on-year increase, with a total of 69,959 arrivals and departures. The breakdown by month is: 23,996 in January, 22,736 in February, and 23,227 in March.
Hamad International Airport handled over 626,338 tonnes of cargo during this period, further solidifying its position as a preferred transfer hub.
Notably, the airport processed a significant volume of transfer baggage – a total of 10,457,444, with 7,210,079 belonging to connecting passengers.
The airport continues to expand its global reach, currently serving 188 cargo and passenger destinations.
Its impressive network now encompasses 48 airlines, with 44 operating in Q1 and an additional 4 partners joining recently.
Raising Passenger Experience
Committed to continuous improvement, Hamad International Airport introduced dedicated security lanes for families with children in Q1.
This initiative reduces wait times at checkpoints and offers additional staff assistance for families with their belongings.
The airport’s dedication to excellence extends beyond passenger comfort. It recently received ISO 45001:2018 certification for its Occupational Health & Safety Management System from the British Standards Institution (BSI).
Additionally, MATAR, the Qatar Company for Airports Operation and Management, was recognized with the ‘Best Innovative Use Of Big Data And Analytics Award’ at the Qatar Digital Business Awards 2023.
This recognition highlights the airport’s commitment to data-driven operational improvements.
