LONDON – UAE carrier Emirates (EK) has announced plans to re-launch services from Dubai International (DXB) Mexico City (MEX) via Barcelona (BCN) with flights starting from July 2 2021. The flight will be operated by the airlines Boeing 777-2000LR aircraft, offering 38 Business and 264 Business class seats. The airline said reopening the route will help boost trade and tourism while also providing customers with more worldwide connectivity, continence and choice.
With many international flights suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions, the announcement by Emirates (EK) will mean that the carrier is able to fill a gap that has been left by other airlines and with restrictions from many destinations in the Americas to Europe the route will open up vital routes and services for many business and liesure travellers.
Flights will depart Dubai under flights number EK255 at 03:25 am, arriving in Barcelona at 08:35 am before it is due to depart again at 10:50 am to Mexico City where it is due to arrive at 16:05 pm the same day. The return flight number EK256 will depart Mexico City at 19:40 pm, arriving in Barcelona at 13:45 pm the next day. EK256 will depart once again from Barcelona the same day at 15:30 pm bound for Dubai where it will arrive at 00:15 am the next day (all times are local).
The reopening of the route is part of the carriers plans to build its route network back up to pre COVID-19 levels, however, with constantly changing rules and restrictions the side of caution will still need to be managed with the risk of stricter restrictions coming into force at any time. Emirates airlines have acknowledged this and said that customer safety remains its number one priority, with the airline extending their COVID-19 multi-risk travel insurance, which allows any customer who booked a flight before December 1, 2020 to change their flight anytime within 36 months of the ticket being issued with no fees or cost to the customer.
