Frontier Airlines has this week revealed plans to launch new flights from nine different airports across the United States.
Such an expansion will see an additional 92 weekly flights added onto their network.
Without further ado, let’s get into it…
The New Flights That Will Be Added…
Announced on June 13, Frontier Airlines will be adding the following flights to it’s network:
- Atlanta to Boston – From August 13 – Daily services.
- Atlanta to Los Angeles – From August 13 – Daily services.
- Boston to Charlotte – From August 13 – Daily services.
- Boston to Dallas Fort-Worth – From August 14 – 4x weekly.
- New York JFK to Las Vegas – From August 13 – Daily services.
- Los Angeles to Sacramento – From August 13 – Daily services.
- San Diego to Sacramento – From August 13 – Daily services.
This expansion in flights will be part of the airline’s approach to tap into new markets and to narrow their losses even further.
Back in May, they reported a pre-tax loss of $24 million for the first quarter of 2024.
Frontier’s Q1 2024 was marked by a robust 2% year-over-year increase in total operating revenue, reaching $865 million.
This growth was fueled by an 8% increase in capacity, demonstrating the airline’s strategic expansion and growing customer base.
Furthermore, Frontier exhibited impressive cost-management strategies. The company achieved a noteworthy 5% reduction in CASM compared to the same period in 2023.
This focus on efficiency, coupled with strong revenue growth, translated to a pre-tax loss that was lower than anticipated. Pre-tax loss for the quarter came in at $24 million, which betters the projected loss of $38 million.
Nevertheless, it is notable that 2023 pre-tax loss for the airline came in at $13 million.
Frontier’s CEO, Barry Biffle, expressed optimism about the future, stating at the time:
“Rigorous cost and revenue management led to a strong Q1 exceeding expectations.”
“We expect continued momentum throughout the year, driven by strategic network expansion, revenue diversification initiatives, and cost savings.”
Flyr: All Part of “The New Frontier” Strategy…
Commenting on the new flights that will launch in August was Josh Flyr, vice president of network and operations design, Frontier Airlines:
“By providing exceptional value and a superior travel experience, ‘The New Frontier’ is leading the way in the airline industry when it comes to convenience and affordability”.
When Flyr relates to “The New Frontier”, it is the airline’s recent changes in their models.
This includes the following, as per their website:
- Clear, Upfront Pricing and Options: New Economy, Premium, and Business options include benefits like no change fees, bags, seat assignments, and more.
- No Change Fees: Zero change or cancellation fees for Economy, Premium, and Business customers, offering greater flexibility.
- Expanded Customer Benefits and Support: Flight credit expiration extended to 12 months, enhanced live phone support, and more.
- ‘For Less’ Price Guarantee: Customers who find a lower price elsewhere can receive 2,500 FRONTIER Miles.
So anyone who books these new flights unveiled by the airline this week will benefit from that directly.
Overall…
In conclusion, Frontier Airlines is continuing on it’s strategy well, with the latest expansion in flights being an example of that.
Furthermore, all eyes will look to launch day of all these routes to see whether they perform well.
If they do, then there could be a foundation to expand further within those relevant markets.
The Summer 2024 season will represent a crunch time for the carrier as they seek to move away from a loss and into a profit throughout the year.
But for now, let’s see how the rest of their 2024 performs as we approach the mid-point of the year.
