Dubai-based airline flydubai has secured the GCAA CAR 147 Approved Maintenance Training Organisation certification. This is a critical accreditation that empowers the carrier to develop and manage its own maintenance and engineering training programs.
The certification, established by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), represents a comprehensive regulatory framework.

His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA, highlighted the strategic importance of this achievement. “This certification marks a significant advancement in developing educational infrastructure for training skilled professionals in the civil aviation sector,” he explained.
Al Suwaidi emphasized that the approval strengthens national capabilities and aligns with global best practices.
Underlining the dynamic nature of aviation, Al Suwaidi stressed the importance of organizations adapting to industry changes through continuous training program updates.

Development of In-House Capabilities
Ghaith Al Ghaith, flydubai’s Chief Executive Officer, expressed pride in obtaining the certification. “This approval represents another milestone in our journey,” he stated. “It underscores our commitment to developing in-house capabilities and supports Dubai’s broader economic and aviation vision.”

Dubai South Maintenance Facility
The airline has also announced plans for a purpose-built maintenance facility in Dubai South, scheduled to open by 2026, further demonstrating its long-term commitment to infrastructure and skill development.
Khalid Alhumaidan, Senior Vice President of Compliance, Safety and Sustainability at flydubai, acknowledged the collaborative effort behind the certification. “Our primary goal is to develop new talent through a structured program,” he said. “We aim to train candidates to become qualified engineering and maintenance professionals who meet the highest safety and quality standards.”
