Impact on Flair’s Operations
The extreme weather presented several challenges for Flair’s ground crew. Following each storm, fueling activities faced delays of approximately one hour due to restricted access to fuel trucks. As a result of the severe conditions, vehicles were unable to leave their depot safely at times.
Additionally, ground crew safety was paramount in the inclement weather. Repeated red alerts from authorities prevented them from working on the ramp during the height of the storms.
Air Traffic Control Challenges Add to Delays
Further complicating the situation were ground stops imposed by Air Traffic Control (ATC). These ground stops were combined with ongoing staffing challenges at ATC.
Overall, this significantly impacted the ability of all airlines operating in and out of Toronto to maintain regular schedules. The ripple effect of these disruptions extended beyond Toronto, with five additional weather diversions occurring across Flair’s network over the weekend.
