Edelweiss, Switzerland’s leading leisure travel airline, is poised to mark a significant fleet milestone this week. Thursday, March 13th, 2025 will see the arrival of its first Airbus A350-900 aircraft in Zurich.
Registered HB-IHF, the aircraft will operate as flight WK5159, departing from Lourdes Airport (LDE). The new widebody aircraft is scheduled to land at Zurich Airport (ZRH). Expected time of arrival is 15:00 local time on Thursday.
Arrival Protocol and Initial Operations
Upon arrival, the A350 will undergo a traditional water salute in front of Observation Deck B, providing aviation enthusiasts with an optimal vantage point.
Following the salute, the aircraft will taxi to its designated parking position. Here, a formal reception will be held for Edelweiss personnel and invited guests.
The aircraft’s entry into service will commence on April 1st, 2025, with initial operations focused on short- and medium-haul routes.
The A350-900 will initially serve on the Tenerife route. During this phase, crews will undergo comprehensive training and become familiar with the A350 platform.
Long-Haul Deployment and Fleet Expansion
Edelweiss will initiate long-haul operations with the A350 in mid-May 2025. The airline has designated Las Vegas as the inaugural long-distance destination.
The introduction of a second A350 aircraft will then take place in early July 2025. This addition will enable the airline to establish a daily service on the Zurich-Vancouver-Zurich route. The new widebody aircraft will enhance both connectivity and capacity for transatlantic travel.

The acquisition of the Airbus A350 represents a strategic fleet modernization initiative for Edelweiss. It aims at enhancing operational efficiency, passenger comfort, and environmental sustainability.
