In a significant move to enhance its British market presence, Finnair has announced a major expansion of its codeshare agreement with fellow oneworld alliance member British Airways.

The strategic partnership now extends to the Channel Islands and Gibraltar. This marks a substantial broadening of Finnair’s reach across the British territories.

The partnership expansion introduces Finnair’s code to seven additional British Airways domestic routes. This substantially improves travel options for customers seeking connections to Finland and beyond.

This enhancement represents a major step in Finnair’s strategy to strengthen its position in the UK market.

Finnair-Coded British Airways Flights

With immediate implementation, customers can now book Finnair-coded British Airways flights connecting London Heathrow with Aberdeen, Belfast City, Gibraltar, Inverness, Jersey, Manchester, and Newcastle. This integration creates a seamless travel experience for passengers from regional British airports to global destinations.

The enhanced agreement enables travelers to purchase complete end-to-end journeys through Finnair’s booking system. This starts at their local airport on British Airways services and connecting at Heathrow to Finnair’s extensive network.

From London Heathrow, passengers gain access to Finnair’s comprehensive route network. This includes direct flights to Helsinki and connections to popular destinations across Lapland, Nordic countries, and the Baltic region.

For long-haul travelers, the airline offers extensive Far East connections, serving major Asian hubs including Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Singapore, and Seoul, alongside numerous other destinations.

The expansion strategically positions Finnair to capture new market segments beyond its established UK bases in London, Manchester, and Edinburgh.

This move particularly benefits travelers from previously underserved regions, offering them convenient access to Finnair’s global network.

UK Travel Market Demand

Anssi Partanen, Finnair Market Director Europe, highlighted the strategic importance of this expansion. “We’ve observed a consistent increase in demand for our Helsinki routes and beyond, extending well beyond mainland UK to include the Channel Islands and Gibraltar.”

“This comprehensive codeshare expansion with British Airways ensures seamless connectivity to Finnair flights from London for travelers throughout the country.”

The partnership offers additional benefits for frequent flyers, as Partanen explains. “Customers can now enjoy both seamless booking through Finnair and Avios.”

“There are earning opportunities as British Airways Executive Club members when planning their 2025 travels. This combination of convenience and rewards has already generated significant positive feedback from our customers.”

The announcement builds upon the Finnish carrier’s recent enhancement of its UK schedule from late 2024, which saw a 50% increase in London Heathrow-Helsinki flights. The upgraded schedule now features six daily departures from Heathrow. This is complemented by twice-daily Manchester services and up to seven weekly Edinburgh flights to Helsinki.
