Finnair Adds Flights to Lapland for Easter and Autumn Peak Season

Finnair is boosting its flight schedule to Lapland's most sought-after destinations during Easter in April and the autumn season from August to October.

Finnair is significantly enhancing its flight schedule to Lapland’s most sought-after destinations during Easter in April and the vibrant autumn colors season from August to October.

The airline is also boosting frequencies for key summer events, responding to increasing demand for year-round travel to Finland’s northernmost region.

Easter Period

During the Easter period, travelers can enjoy additional flights to Kuusamo and Rovaniemi, perfect timing for the excellent late-season skiing conditions in April.

The extended schedule allows winter sports enthusiasts to take advantage of the region’s pristine snow conditions and longer daylight hours characteristic of early spring in Lapland.

Nature enthusiasts and photographers will appreciate the extra connections to Kuusamo, Kittilä, and Ivalo during peak autumn foliage weeks.

This expansion particularly caters to travelers seeking to experience “ruska,” the spectacular autumn colors that transform Lapland’s landscapes into a stunning display of reds, oranges, and yellows.

Supporting Event Tourism

The airline is responding to growing event tourism by adding return flights for several popular gatherings throughout the summer season. These include the NUTS Karhunkierros trail running event in Ruka (May), which attracts outdoor sports enthusiasts from across Europe.

Additional flights will also serve visitors to the Solstice festival in Ruka (June), celebrating the midnight sun phenomenon.

For sports enthusiasts, increased connections will support attendance at Kuopio’s World Orienteering Championships (July) and Finland’s premier harness racing competition, Kuninkuusravit, in Oulu (August).

“We’re seeing increasing travel demand beyond the traditional winter season,” says Perttu Jolma, Finnair’s Vice President of Network Management. “Lapland’s ever-changing natural landscape and outdoor activities attract more visitors throughout the year.”

“These additional flights ensure convenient travel options during peak periods and special events, supporting our vision for year-round tourism in Lapland and Northern Finland.”
