A FedEx freighter operating from Paris to Memphis, TN declared an emergency shortly after departure from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport on 8 May 2024.
FedEx flight FX27, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F freighter bound for Memphis (MEM) declared an emergency with squawk code 7700 in the early stages of departure.

The aircraft was still in French airspace when it terminated its climb at flight level FL190 (19,000 feet). Flight crew declared an emergency and a return to Paris (CDG) was negotiated.
The nature of the emergency prompting the precautionary return to the departure airport is not yet clear.
Flight data shows that flight FX27 made a departure from the main Paris airport at 20:58 local time on 8 May.
The aircraft was establishing on track and on climb through FL190 when flight crew squawk transponder code 7700 at 21:15 local time.
Flight FX27 then negotiated a direct return to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.
MD-11F N583FE
The aircraft conducting the freighter service to Memphis International Airport (MEM) was a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F, registered N583FE. This is a 33.9-year-old converted freighter belonging to the carrier FedEx Express.
It has been in active service with the operator since June 1997. Prior to that it was operated by other major carriers including British Airways and American Airlines.
FedEx Express boasts the world’s largest cargo air fleet, currently consisting of over 650 aircraft. Founded in 1971, it is the air cargo arm of the multinational shipping giant FedEx Corporation.
The operator’s ‘super hub’ is located at Memphis International Airport.
