ATR, a global leader in regional aircraft manufacturing, has secured a significant deal with FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), the world’s largest express transportation provider.
This agreement involves the purchase of 10 additional ATR 72-600F freighters, building upon a previous order of 30 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to occur between 2027 and 2029.
This latest order furthers FedEx’s strategy of modernizing its regional cargo operations with the highly efficient ATR 72-600F.
As the only currently produced regional freighter, the ATR 72-600F offers cutting-edge technology from the ATR -600 series, tailored specifically for cargo transport.
ATR 72-600F: Optimized for Cargo Operations
The aircraft’s design prioritizes cargo capacity and efficiency. A bulk configuration maximizes available space, providing up to 75 cubic meters of volume.
The design utilizes features like nine vertical nets, floor attachment points, and lateral tracks to achieve this. The aircraft boasts a large cargo door, advanced loading system, and wide cross-section. This enables it to accommodate industry-standard Unit Load Devices (ULDs), facilitating seamless integration with larger freighters.
Versatility and Efficiency for FedEx Network
With a payload capacity of 9.2 tons, the ATR 72-600F is a crucial asset for FedEx. It will replace older ATR aircraft, enhancing the company’s network capabilities worldwide.
This aircraft’s versatility allows it to operate effectively in diverse climates and logistical environments, from the warmth of Miami, Florida, to the cold of Anchorage, Alaska.
FedEx relies on its fleet of ATR 72-600F aircraft for essential feeder operations, ensuring coverage of smaller, often underserved markets. This plays a vital role in maintaining the company’s comprehensive global network.

ATR Emphasizes Aircraft Advantages
“FedEx’s decision to order additional ATR 72-600F underscores their trust in our aircraft’s performance and versatility,” stated Alexis Vidal, Senior Vice-President Commercial of ATR.
“Our freighter variant is a critical part of the ATR family, offering notable advantages over passenger-to-freighter conversions. These advantages include enhanced reliability, improved availability, and more predictable long-term planning.”
These 10 new aircraft are part of the previously undisclosed orders ATR announced last month. This highlights the strong demand for the ATR 72-600F.
