FAA To Investigate Electrical Issues on American Airlines Flight

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will investigate an incident involving an American Airlines flight suffering significant electrical issues.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will investigate an incident involving an American Airlines flight suffering significant electrical issues.

Information has been released pertinent to the incident at hand, which we will get into now.

American Airlines Flight AA1047 – Chicago to Las Vegas…


The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will investigate an incident involving an American Airlines flight suffering significant electrical issues.

American Airlines flight AA1047, which suffered the electrical problems, is a routine scheduled flight between Chicago and Las Vegas.

Furthermore, the aircraft involved in the incident was N834NN.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N834NN is a 14.7 year old Boeing 737-800 that was delivered to the airline in April 2010.

Of the 737-800 variant, American Airlines has 303 of them in their fleet.

Moreover, of that 303, 293 are in active service, with the other 10 parked.

AA1047 departed Chicago at 0849 local time on December 1 and initially tracked west towards Las Vegas.

Near Grand Rapids, the aircraft made a u-turn, and a subsequent beeline back to O’Hare.

After around an hour and eight minutes in the air, the aircraft landed safely without further incident.

As per The Aviation Herald, it is understood that the electrical problems resulted in the following things happening:

  • Autopilot & Autothrottle disconnect issues.
  • Multiple door lights emitting in the cockpit.
  • Takeoff configuration horn sounding for 30 seconds.

The Statement from the FAA on the Electrical Issues…

In a statement, the FAA said the following on the American Airlines flight that suffered the electrical issues:

“American Airlines Flight 1047 returned safely to Chicago O’Hare International Airport around 9:45 a.m. local time on Sunday, December 1, after the crew reported a possible electrical issue.”

“The Boeing 737-800 was headed to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. The FAA will investigate.”

Data from RadarBox highlights that N834NN was grounded until the evening of December 1st.

The aircraft was fixed quickly and sent on the AA2544 service to San Francisco.

Since then, the aircraft has been back in normal commercial action in terms of flights.
