EVA Air, Taiwan’s private international airline, has rolled out its latest Hello Kitty themed aircraft in Chicago. The Hello Kitty® Besties Jet, a Boeing 777-300ER now joins three other themed livery aircraft with the carrier.
This colorful new addition to the fleet took to the skies on August 29, 2024. It embarked on its inaugural flight, BR55, from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). The flight was operated direct to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE).
To mark this special occasion, EVA Air presented exclusive commemorative gifts to all passengers onboard the first flight. The added touch created a memorable experience from the moment they stepped onto the plane.
Regular Operations: Chicago-Taipei
The Hello Kitty® Besties Jet isn’t just a one-time wonder – it’s set to become a regular fixture on the Chicago-Taipei route. The aircraft will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday during the summer schedule. Come winter, the flight days will shift to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, ensuring year-round service for enthusiasts and travelers alike.
The night before the inaugural flight, Chicago O’Hare International Airport played host to a grand welcome ceremony. As flight BR56 from Taipei touched down, bringing the Hello Kitty® Besties Jet to American soil for the first time, it was greeted with a traditional water salute.
The festivities continued with a lively reception featuring live music. This set the tone for the joyful atmosphere that the Hello Kitty® Besties Jet aims to bring to the skies.
Chicago: Vital Leisure and Commercial Hub

The Hello Kitty Experience
The Hello Kitty® Besties Jet offers passengers an immersive experience from the moment they board. EVA Air has adorned the aircraft’s interior with Hello Kitty® elements throughout the cabin.
The exterior of the plane features specially designed artwork showcasing beloved Sanrio characters including Hello Kitty, My Melody, and the increasingly popular Kuromi.
Inside, passengers will find specially designed headrests adding a touch of whimsy to their journey. During meal service, EVA Air will treat passengers to custom-designed place settings, further enhancing the themed experience.
The overall design concept of the Hello Kitty® Besties Jet revolves around the idea of traveling with loved ones, encouraging passengers to explore the world together and create lasting memories with EVA Air.
Route Operations
With the addition of the Chicago route, EVA Air now features Hello Kitty Jets on four distinct routes:
- Chicago (US): Served by the new Hello Kitty® Besties Jet
- Clark (Philippines): Featuring the BAD BADTZ-MARU Travel Fun design
- Bali (Indonesia): Alternating between Celebration Flight and Joyful Dream designs
- Cebu (Philippines): Also alternating between Celebration Flight and Joyful Dream designs
EVA Air has thoughtfully extended the Hello Kitty experience beyond just these special livery jets. Passengers flying on other days of the week on these routes will still enjoy Hello Kitty-themed in-cabin amenities, ensuring they don’t miss out on the fun.
