Etihad Airways, the UAE’s national airline, and Air Europa, a leading Spanish carrier, are deepening their existing partnership.
A strategic collaboration is now planned, promising enhanced commercial and operational ties. This translates to wider choices, superior services, and improved value for passengers.
Increased Flights & Wet Lease Operation
Starting summer 2025, Etihad will double its flights to Air Europa’s Madrid hub, offering twice-daily seamless connections between Abu Dhabi and Spain. This increased frequency is just the beginning.
The partnership aims to significantly boost connectivity between Europe and Latin America, as well as the Middle East and Asia. Imagine effortless travel across these pivotal regions.
Arik De, Etihad Airways’ Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, revealed that discussions are underway for a comprehensive strategic partnership. This includes deepening their existing codeshare and frequent flyer program.
The airlines are also exploring a potential wet lease operation, with an Air Europa aircraft flying between Madrid and Abu Dhabi.
“Any partnership will work towards benefiting customers of both airlines,” De stated. “It underscores our commitment to providing our valued customers with a seamless travel experience and access to a wider network, including Air Europa’s leading Latin America Network.”
Richard Clark, Air Europa’s General Manager, welcomed the development. “We are very pleased to expand our partnership with Etihad Airways into a scenario that will be even more rewarding for our customers.”
“By initiating our operations between Madrid-Barajas and Abu Dhabi, it will further extend our reach to the Middle East and Asia.”
He further emphasized that this collaboration opens up more possibilities for connecting both regions to the Americas via Europe, all while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
Current Bilateral Codesharing
Currently, Etihad and Air Europa have a robust partnership featuring bilateral codesharing. This allows members of their respective frequent flyer programs to earn and redeem miles on each other’s flights.
The enhanced collaboration will solidify Air Europa’s presence in the Middle East and Asia. Leveraging Etihad’s Abu Dhabi hub, Air Europa will unlock greater connectivity for its customers.
