Etihad Airways, the UAE’s national carrier, has joined forces with Batik Air Malaysia in a new codeshare agreement.
This partnership, set to launch today, 16 July 2024, aims to enhance connectivity and travel options for passengers of both airlines.
The agreement enables seamless connections to five key locations in Malaysia. These including the idyllic island of Langkawi, the culturally and culinary rich city of Penang, and Kota Kinabalu, gateway to Borneo’s highest peak.
The partnership also provides access to the popular destinations of Hanoi and Da Nang in Vietnam, as well as Perth, Australia. Medan and Hong Kong set to be added in the near future.
Access to 8 New Destinations
The collaboration allows Etihad’s customers to access eight new destinations. These will be accessible through Batik Air’s hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). These include:
- Five domestic Malaysian locations:
- Johor Bahru
- Langkawi
- Penang
- Kota Kinabalu
- Tawau
- Three international destinations:
- Da Nang, Vietnam
- Hanoi, Vietnam
- Perth, Australia
Passengers benefit from combined services on a single ticket, with luggage transferred automatically to their final destination.
Partnership Comments
Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad, offered comment about the new partnership agreement. “This collaboration significantly expands our codeshare network, offering travelers seamless access to key Malaysian destinations.”

Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, CEO of Batik Air Malaysia, added further comment on behalf of Batik Air. “We aim to establish KUL as a transit hub, enhancing Etihad’s connectivity and ensuring a more comprehensive travel experience.”
“This partnership will also expand flight choices for Malaysian travelers, offering new international destinations beyond Abu Dhabi.”
