Earlier this week, United Airlines flight UA507 from San Francisco to Rome had to divert to Sacramento due to engine issues onboard.
Information has been released pertinent to this incident, which we will get into in this article.
Without further ado, let’s get into it…
Sacramento Diversion!: United Airlines UA507 San Francisco-Rome…
United Airlines flight UA507, which suffered the engine issues in Sacramento, is a routine scheduled flight between San Francisco & Rome.
Furthermore, the aircraft involved in the incident was understood to be N204UA.
As per data from Planespotters.net, N204UA is a 25.6 year old Boeing 777-200 that was delivered to the airline in February 1999.
Of the 777-200, United Airlines has 74 of them in their fleet.
Moreover, of that 74, all but four are in active service, with an average fleet age of 25.2 years.
As well as the 777-200, the airline has the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:
- 81 Airbus A319s.
- 84 Airbus A320s.
- 15 Airbus A321s.
- 510 Boeing 737 Family aircraft.
- 61 Boeing 757s.
- 53 Boeing 767s.
- 22 Boeing 777-300ERs.
- 71 Boeing 787s.
United Airlines flight UA507, which diverted to Sacramento (SMF), departed San Francisco (SFO) at 1649 local time on August 13 and initially climbed out towards Rome.
Near Reno, the aircraft made a u-turn in the direction of SFO, but instead immediately descended, opting for SMF instead.
From there, the aircraft landed safely without further incident after just an hour in the air.
As per The Aviation Herald, it is understood the cause was engine problems being reported by the crew.
In a statement, the FAA said the following on this:
“United Airlines Flight 507 landed safely at Sacramento International Airport in California around 5:50 p.m. local time on Tuesday, August 13, after the crew reported a possible engine issue.”
“The Boeing 777-200 departed San Francisco International Airport and was headed to Rome, Italy. The FAA will investigate.”
Aircraft Expected Back in Service Later Today: Subject to Change?
Following the incident involving United Airlines flight UA507 San Francisco-Rome in Sacramento, N204UA remained grounded at the airport.
However, data from RadarBox highlights a filed flight plan for later today operating the UA749 rotation to Newark.
With that in mind, no flight plan has been filed at the time of writing (14/8/24 @ 2210 UK time) for the positioning flight back to SFO.
Therefore, this means that the operation of the flight with that aircraft is still subject to change.
All eyes will be on whether the aircraft operates the flight or not.
If it doesn’t, then it’s clear the engine problems will require a longer grounding period whilst maintenance fixes the issues.
