An Endeavour Air Bombardier CRJ-700 operating a regional service from Atlanta, GA to Montgomery, AL made a precautionary return to Atlanta (ATL) after crew reported the smell of smoke in the cabin on 17 July 2024.
Endeavour Air flight DL4955, being operated on behalf of Delta Air Lines, had made a departure from runway 26L Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

While the flight was still on climb below 10,000 feet, flight crew detected the odour of smoke in the aircraft cabin.
As a result, the climb was terminated and a precautionary return to the origin airport was initiated.
The operating crew expedited a direct return to Atlanta (ATL) and landed without further incident just under 30 minutes after the initial departure.
A replacement CRJ-700 aircraft was mustered to conduct the onwards service to Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM).

Flight data shows that Endeavour-operated flight DL4955 made a departure out of Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) at 1235 local time.
The climb procedure was subsequently terminated at 7,000 feet and the direct return to the origin airport was negotiated.
The regional flight then landed at the origin airport at 1312 local time. The aircraft conducting the DL4955 service to Montgomery (MGM) was a Bombardier CRJ-700, registered N340CA.
This is a 21.8-year-old regional jet belonging to the carrier Delta Connection, and operated by Endeavour Air. It has been in service with the carrier since its initial delivery in October 2002.
