Emirates has marked a significant milestone in its fleet expansion with the delivery of its first Airbus A350 aircraft. This new aircraft type, the A350-900, is the first to join the airline’s fleet since 2008.
The first widebody A350-900, registered as A6-EXA, was officially handed over this morning to Emirates at the factory. It will later embark on its ferry flight from Toulouse (TLS) to Dubai today at 1600hrs local time.
First A350 Delivery After Delays
Emirates’ highly anticipated Airbus A350 delivery has faced several delays. Initially slated for August 2024, the delivery was pushed back to November due to supply chain issues and interior installation challenges.
This delay has also impacted the aircraft’s entry into commercial service, which is now expected to begin in January 2025. The airline has a total of 65 A350-900 aircraft on order, which will be delivered over the next few years.
The delivery flight of the A350 was powered by a blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and conventional jet fuel. This furthers Emirates’ move to reducing its environmental impact and embracing sustainable aviation practices.
Deployment to Long-Haul Operations
The A350 will officially enter commercial service in January 2025, with its inaugural flight to Edinburgh.
Subsequently, it will be deployed to serve eight other destinations across the Middle East, West Asia, and Europe.
Aviation enthusiasts can track the progress of the A350’s ferry flight from Toulouse to Dubai in real-time on RadarBox. Once the aircraft arrives in Dubai, it will undergo final preparations at Emirates Engineering before its official unveiling later this week.
Summary
The delays in the delivery of the Airbus A350 to Emirates are not entirely unexpected, given the global supply chain disruptions that have impacted various industries. However, these delays have significantly impacted the airline’s operational plans and passenger expectations.
Emirates has been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the A350, as it is expected to offer significant fuel efficiency and a superior passenger experience. The aircraft’s advanced technology and modern cabin design are set to elevate the airline’s product offering.
Despite the setbacks, Emirates remains optimistic about the future and the role of the A350 in its fleet. The airline is confident that the aircraft will contribute to its long-term growth and success.
