Emirates has touched down in Edinburgh for the first time since 2020, marking the return of its direct service between Scotland’s capital and Dubai.

The resumption signals a significant boost for Scottish connectivity and international travel options. The airline now offers daily flights between Edinburgh Airport – a recent addition to the VINCI Airports network – and Dubai.

This year-round service restores a vital connection to one of the world’s major travel hubs, providing Scottish travelers with seamless access to global destinations.

A Traditional Scottish Welcome

In a display of Scottish tradition, members of the renowned Edinburgh Military Tattoo created a memorable arrival ceremony. It welcomed the inaugural flight with a stirring bagpipe performance as the aircraft reached its stand. This cultural greeting highlighted the significance of the route’s return to Scotland’s capital.

While passengers will initially travel aboard a Boeing 777, Emirates has announced plans to upgrade the route with its first-ever A350 aircraft.

This enhancement will introduce Scottish travelers to the carrier’s celebrated Premium Economy offering and its cutting-edge Business Class cabin, promising an elevated travel experience for premium passengers.

The route’s resumption opens up Emirates’ comprehensive network spanning six continents to Scottish travelers. This improved connectivity promises to strengthen Scotland’s economy through increased tourism, enhanced business opportunities, and improved trade links with key global markets.

Welcome Return and Upcoming A350 Service

Gordon Dewar, Edinburgh Airport’s Chief Executive, shared his enthusiasm: “We’re delighted to welcome Emirates back to Edinburgh, restoring direct flights between our capital and the sought-after destination of Dubai.”

“This service benefits both business and leisure travelers, while Emirates’ extensive network creates countless travel possibilities. We’re particularly excited about the upcoming A350, which will introduce Emirates’ renowned Premium Economy and new Business Class experience to our passengers.”

Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, emphasized the UK’s importance in the airline’s global strategy. “The UK remains a crucial market for us, and we’re thrilled to return to Scotland – a country that captivates global visitors.”

“Our Scottish customers will enjoy exceptional service, first on our Boeing 777 and later on our eagerly awaited A350. With 14 weekly Scottish flights, travelers can easily reach popular destinations like Thailand, Australia, and vibrant Dubai.”

The route also brings significant cargo capacity, supporting Scottish businesses with efficient access to international markets. This enhanced freight capability will help local companies expand their global reach and meet increasing demand for Scottish products worldwide.

Broader Regional Impact

Connectivity Minister Jim Fairlie highlighted the broader economic impact for the region. “The return of Emirates’ Edinburgh-Dubai service strengthens Scotland’s ties with the UAE and its extensive connecting destinations.”

“This route will enhance tourism benefits and support business links, trade, and investment. We aim to expand international connections across all Scottish airports and wish this route great success.”

VisitScotland’s Head of Business Development and Intermediary Marketing, Denise Hill, pointed to the timing’s significance. “Emirates’ renewed Edinburgh service greatly enhances Scotland’s global reach. This comes as international visitor numbers hit record levels, outpacing pre-pandemic figures and UK growth.”

“It’s especially valuable for accessing growing markets like Australia and India, whose visitors typically stay longer and spend more, significantly contributing to Scotland’s tourism economy.”

The return of Emirates’ Edinburgh-Dubai service now promises to strengthen Scotland’s position in international tourism, trade, and business relations.
