In advance of the arrival of the much-awaited Airbus A350 aircraft, Emirates has invested around US$48 million in training assets. This involves full suites of cutting-edge equipment and systems to support both pilot and cabin crew training.
The training set-up includes three full flight simulators, a fixed base training device, a cabin emergency evacuation trainer, and a door trainer. The airline aims to provide its pilots and cabin crew with the highest quality training possible.
Pilot Support System (PSS)
One of the highlights of this investment is the innovative pilot support system (PSS), developed in-house by Emirates.
The PSS allows trainees to interactively set up a flight deck, including building a flight plan. This is all carried out in a fully immersive environment. Trainees recall this setup when they enter the simulator to begin their training.
The airline’s A350 full flight simulator recently received a Level D qualification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This is the highest possible level for this type of simulator. This achievement demonstrates Emirates’ commitment to providing advanced training for its pilots.
Emirates has ordered three full flight simulators for its A350 fleet. The second simulator is currently undergoing on-site acceptance. It is expected to receive EASA approval in November.
Emirates’ Commitment to Training
Emirates has already trained nearly 30 pilots and 820 cabin crew members on the A350. The airline’s pilots and cabin crew receive rigorous, evidence-based training delivered by experienced instructors in specialized environments.
In June, Emirates announced a collaboration with IATA and Airbus. The goal was to develop an enhanced Competency-Based Training and Assessment program for the A350 type rating.
Future Fleet and Training Facilities
Emirates currently has 65 Airbus A350s and 205 Boeing 777Xs on order. These new widebody aircraft will support its expansion plans and allow it to better serve its growing network.
The airline will open its advanced pilot training facility later this year. This 63,318 square foot facility can accommodate six full-flight simulator bays for the A350 and Boeing 777X aircraft.
With this new facility, Emirates will have a total capacity of over 130,000 training hours per year. This is calculated across all its pilot training facilities.
Emirates is revving up its pilot recruitment drive. Those interested to join Emirates’ elite corps of aviators can register for the online info session on 16 October here.
