Emirates achieved a historic milestone as its inaugural Airbus A350 flight took off from Dubai to Edinburgh on 3 January 2025.

The new aircraft sets fresh standards in aviation excellence. It combines cutting-edge cabin design with superior passenger comfort and Emirates’ renowned service quality.

The maiden flight marks the beginning of a significant fleet expansion, with this A350 being the first of 65 aircraft set to join Emirates’ operations in the coming years.

Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, gave comment on the historic moment. “The A350’s introduction represents a transformative step in Emirates’ evolution. Choosing Edinburgh for our first A350 service demonstrates our strong commitment to the UK market.”

“This aircraft delivers an unprecedented travel experience, featuring our most advanced cabin products. Each new A350 joining our fleet reinforces our dedication to revolutionizing air travel standards worldwide.”

Edinburgh Airport’s Chief Commercial Officer (Aero), Kate Sherry, gave a welcome on behalf of the Scottish airport. “Welcoming Emirates’ A350 to Scotland provides an exceptional start to 2025.”

“Having Edinburgh chosen for this historic first flight reflects Emirates’ confidence in our partnership and their commitment to delivering superior passenger experiences through modern aircraft innovation.”

Cabin Design and Technology

The Emirates A350 introduces groundbreaking cabin innovations focused on passenger comfort. The aircraft features reimagined cabin designs across all classes, including an enhanced Economy Class layout.

There are upgraded Business Class and Premium Economy sections, and state-of-the-art entertainment systems with 4K and 4K HDR ultra-responsive screens.

Passengers benefit from increased headroom, wider aisles throughout all cabins, and high-speed global Wi-Fi connectivity.

As the industry’s most fuel-efficient large widebody aircraft, the A350 also leads in environmental performance while offering exceptionally quiet cabin acoustics.

Emirates has configured their A350 to accommodate 312 passengers, featuring 32 next-generation lie-flat Business Class seats, 21 Premium Economy seats, and 259 spacious Economy Class seats.

Emirates plans to expand A350 services to eight additional destinations in the coming months: Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kuwait, Bahrain, Colombo, Lyon, Muscat, and Bologna.

Strengthening Scottish Connections

Following Emirates’ service resumption to Edinburgh in November 2024, the A350’s arrival further strengthens Scotland’s global connectivity.

The airline now operates 14 weekly Scottish flights, including Glasgow’s A380 service, connecting passengers to over 140 global destinations.

Flight EK23 departs Dubai at 14:50 local time, arriving in Edinburgh at 19:05. The return flight, EK24, leaves Edinburgh at 20:40, reaching Dubai at 08:05 the following day.

Celebrating Scottish Cuisine

The inaugural flight showcased Scotland’s culinary excellence. Business Class passengers enjoyed specially curated dishes including Lanark Blue cheese soup, Scottish smoked salmon with caviar, Aberdeen Angus beef fillet, traditional Balmoral chicken with tatties and neeps, and cranachan cheesecake.

Economy Class travelers also experienced Scottish flavors through potato champ salad with smoked salmon, accompanied by Nairn’s oat biscuits and Walker’s shortbread.
