Embraer has announced a key milestone for its E190F freighter program: full certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
This crucial approval now paves the way for global operations, validating the aircraft’s readiness to serve the burgeoning air cargo market.
The EASA approval follows certifications from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC) earlier in 2024. It now solidifies the E190F’s position as an emerging player in the international air freight sector.
E190F: From Maiden Flight in April 2024
The E190F, a passenger-to-freighter conversion of the popular E190 regional jet, made its maiden flight in April 2024 and debuted publicly at the Farnborough Airshow in July 2024.
Launched in May 2022, the program was strategically designed to address a growing need within the air cargo sector. Specifically, the E190F aims to replace aging, less efficient aircraft while simultaneously meeting the unique demands of modern e-commerce and global trade.

The Rise of E-Commerce
The rise of e-commerce has fundamentally reshaped consumer expectations, placing a premium on speed and agility in delivery. This surge in online shopping has fueled a corresponding increase in global air cargo demand.
Businesses and consumers alike now expect rapid transit of goods, often to smaller, regional markets rather than just major metropolitan hubs. The E190F is specifically tailored to meet this demand, offering a cost-effective and efficient solution for faster deliveries to a wider range of destinations.
“EASA certification is a key milestone in our passenger-to-freighter conversion program,” stated Martyn Holmes, Chief Commercial Officer, Embraer Commercial Aviation.
“This is an exciting market, and we have developed the perfect aircraft to fill the gap, meeting the demand globally for faster deliveries, not just to metro areas, but all regions.”
“The E-Jets are a global success with a large footprint worldwide, we are now ready to offer the highest standard of freighter solution to customers globally.”

Advantages of the E190F Freighter
The E190F offers a compelling value proposition for cargo operators. Converted E-Jets boast over 40% more volume capacity compared to their passenger configuration.
Furthermore, they provide three times the range of large cargo turboprops, significantly expanding operational possibilities.
Perhaps most importantly, the E190F offers up to 30% lower operating costs than larger narrowbody freighters, a crucial factor in a competitive market.
With a maximum structural payload of 13,500 kg, distributed across both under-floor and main deck capacity, the E190F provides a versatile platform for a wide range of cargo operations.
Embraer’s E190F looks well-positioned to capitalize on the increasing demands of the air cargo sector, particularly in the rapidly expanding e-commerce market.
