On August 29, a EgyptAir flight between Cairo and Douala had to make an emergency landing into Kufra, Libya.

Earlier today, a EgyptAir flight between Cairo and Douala had to make an emergency landing into Kufra, Libya.

Information is limited surrounding this incident, but below is what we know on this so far.

EgyptAir Flight MS887 – Cairo to Douala…


On August 29, a EgyptAir flight between Cairo and Douala had to make an emergency landing into Kufra, Libya.

EgyptAir flight MS887, which made the emergency landing in Kufra, is a routine scheduled flight between Cairo and Douala.

Furthermore, the aircraft involved in the incident was SU-GDA.

As per data from Planespotters.net, SU-GDA is a 15.1 year old Boeing 737-800 that was delivered to the airline in August 2009.

Of the 737-800 variant, EgyptAir have 30 of them in their fleet.

Moreover, of that 30, all but two are in active service, with an average fleet age of 12.6 years.

As well as the 737-800, the Egyptian carrier has the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:

  • 8 Airbus A320s.
  • 7 Airbus A321s.
  • 11 Airbus A330s.
  • 6 Boeing 777s.
  • 7 Boeing 787s.

EgyptAir flight MS887, which made the emergency landing in Kufra, departed Cairo at 1531 local time on August 29, and initially tracked towards Douala.

However, the crew had to declare an emergency and divert to the Libyan airport with a situation onboard.

It is understood the aircraft landed safely without further incident.

What Was The Reason for the Emergency Landing into Kufra?

The reason for the emergency landing in Kufra by EgyptAir flight MS887 Cairo-Douala was due to a pregnant woman going into labour and giving birth.

It is understood the mother and the baby were transferred to a hospital in Kufra, with them both doing well.

After the passengers were offloaded the aircraft, MS887 continued on to Douala with a delay.

As soon as we have more information on this, then we will update you accordingly.
