An Edelweiss flight inbound from Tampa, Florida has declared an emergency whilst approaching Zurich.
Edelweiss flight WK5, an Airbus A340-300 from Tampa International Airport, declared an emergency with squawk code 7700 as it approached the destination.

Edelweiss flight WK5 declared the emergency with squawk code 7700 whilst on decent through 10,000 feet to the destination.
The nature of the emergency prompting the declaration is not yet known. The flight is continuing the final part of the approach under emergency code 7700.

Flight WK5 is now establishing on final approach for RWY16 Zurich Airport (ZRH). Weather is VFR with 8 kilometres visibility and cloud base 4,000 feet for the flight’s arrival.

The aircraft conducting today’s WK5 transatlantic service from Tampa, FL was an Airbus A340-300 registered HB-JMF. This is a 20.8 year old widebody aircraft belonging to the carrier Edelweiss.
It has been been in service with the airline since March 2017.
