easyJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Teenager’s Mid-Air Disruption

An easyJet flight enroute from Antalya to London was forced to divert to Bari, Italy after a teenage passenger assaulted crew and attempted to open a cabin door on 27 December.

On 27 December, 2024, an easyJet flight enroute from Antalya to London was forced to divert to Bari, Italy, due to a disruptive teenage passenger.

The passenger assaulted the flight crew and attempted to open the aircraft door during the flight, causing widespread panic among passengers.  

The teenager, reported as a sixteen year old female, threatened to stab staff, whilst being restrained by easyJet crewmembers.

The teenager’s actions prompted the flight crew to divert the flight to Bari Airport as a safety precaution. After landing, the disruptive passenger was taken into custody by Italian authorities. Police and firefighters were standing by to meet the flight on its arrival.

Following the disembarkation of the passenger, the flight was able to resumed its journey to London Gatwick Airport with a significant delay.

EasyJet Inflight Incident


EasyJet issued a statement following the incident, expressing their commitment to the safety of their passengers and crew.

They praised the crew’s prompt actions in handling the situation and ensuring everyone’s safety. The airline also apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers due to the unexpected diversion.

The incident sparked widespread concern among passengers, some of whom took to social media to share their experiences. Many expressed their concern and frustration over the disruption, while others praised the crew’s professionalism in handling the situation.

easyJet’s Handling of the Aftermath

Following the incident, EasyJet faced criticism for its handling of the situation on the ground. Passengers reported being left stranded in Bari with little information or support from the airline. Many were accommodated in substandard hotels, adding to their distress.  

EasyJet later apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers and promised to improve their response in future incidents. The airline also reimbursed passengers for expenses incurred due to the diversion.
