An easyJet flight operating from London to Malaga, Spain diverted to Madrid after reporting smoke in the cabin on 23 January 2025.
EasyJet flight U28069, operated by an Airbus A320-200, was en route from London Gatwick Airport (LGW) to Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP).

The aircraft was in cruising flight, passing to the north-west of Madrid, when flight crew reported the presence of smoke in the cabin.
An emergency was declared with squawk code 7700 and a diversion was conducted to Madrid. The flight was able to land without further incident on runway 32L Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD).

The flight then exited the active runway and was relocated to a remote apron at the diversion airport. Emergency ground services vehicles escorted the aircraft to the apron as a precautionary measure.
The airline mustered a replacement aircraft to conduct the onwards scheduled service to Malaga.

Flight data shows that flight U28069 had made an on-time departure out of London Gatwick airport at 0644 local time on 23 January.
The flighted then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL310 for the southerly service to Malaga, Spain.
The diversion and emergency declaration were then made as the aircraft passed abeam Madrid on flight plan track. Flight crew squawked the emergency transponder code 7700 at 0836 UTC, as they commenced a descent from cruising altitude.

The aircraft conducting the U28069 service from London Gatwick Airport was an Airbus A320-200, registered G-UZHE. This is a 6.9 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier easyJet. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in March 2018.
