Dubai International Airport (DXB) is charging toward record passenger numbers for 2024 after an outstanding first nine months. The airport welcomed 68.6 million travelers through September, setting the stage for an exceptionally busy final quarter.

According to airport officials, this achievement can be attributed to the commitment of staff and partners who have helped maintain DXB’s world-leading position.

Closing Out a Stellar Year

“This year exemplifies DXB’s finest qualities – sustained growth, adaptability, and exceptional service,” says Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths.

“Our success stems from our dedicated team, whose collaborative spirit has driven these record-breaking numbers and stellar performance. It has kept us at the forefront for more than ten years. We remain focused on DXB, continuously investing in customer service and innovation to enhance our hospitality experience.

“What’s remarkable is the surge in direct traffic, shifting from our traditional transfer-dominated model. This change reflects Dubai’s transformation into a global destination for tourism, residence, and business opportunities.”

“This is evident in our thriving real estate market and growing appeal to international talent. As we enter the final quarter, with Dubai’s exciting winter events calendar, we’re committed to maintaining our exceptional service standards.”

Sustained Growth Through Q3 2024

Building on strong first-half momentum, DXB served 23.7 million passengers in Q3, contributing to the year-to-date total of 68.6 million – a 6.3% increase from 2023.

The airport handled over 111,300 flights in Q3, bringing the nine-month total to 327,700 movements, up 6.4% year-over-year.

DXB’s smooth handling of these volumes showcases its commitment to excellence. Advanced technologies, including biometric systems and real-time tracking, ensure passengers enjoy seamless journeys.

India maintained its position as the leading market with 8.9 million passengers over nine months. Saudi Arabia followed with 5.6 million (+15.2%), while the UK contributed 4.6 million (+4.7%). Pakistan, the USA, and Germany recorded 3.4 million, 2.6 million, and 2.0 million passengers respectively.

London topped city destinations with 2.9 million passengers, followed by Riyadh’s impressive growth to 2.3 million (+25.8%). Other key cities included Mumbai (1.8 million), Jeddah (1.7 million), New Delhi (1.6 million), and Istanbul (1.3 million).

Operational Performance

DXB processed 60.1 million bags with 99.3% accuracy. For arriving passengers, 92% received their luggage within 45 minutes of landing. This showcased the airport’s efficiency in managing high volumes while maintaining accurate service.

Winter Season Prospects

DXB anticipates 23.2 million passengers in Q4, traditionally a peak period for direct traffic. Holiday travelers and winter tourists will drive this growth, with direct traffic expected to reach 60% of Q4 volume, compared to 50% in Q3.

Major events like the DP World Tour Championship, Emirates Dubai 7s, and New Year’s celebrations attract international visitors. The cruise season adds another dimension, leveraging Dubai’s excellent connectivity.

New airlines joining DXB’s network include ITA, Condor, Hainan, and Druk Air, which launches services to Paro, Bhutan. Dubai World Central welcomes Transavia and Eurowings, further expanding regional connections.
