Delta Air Lines is set to introduce nonstop flights between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) starting March 9, 2025.

This new service, approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation, gives travelers a fresh option for direct flights between Seattle and Washington’s convenient downtown airport.

The route emerged from Delta’s successful advocacy efforts alongside the FAA reauthorization bill, which President Biden signed in May.

New Beyond-Perimeter Flights

The SEA-DCA connection was among five new beyond-perimeter flights approved by the DOT, completing Delta’s network of nonstop services between its western hubs and the nation’s capital.

“Delta sees Seattle as both a vital hub and premier west coast gateway,” said Glen Hauenstein, Delta’s president. “We appreciate the Department of Transportation’s decision to enhance competition and choice for Seattle travelers. Our new premium service launches this March.”

The introduction of this route received strong backing from local business and community leaders, who highlighted its potential economic benefits and improved travel options for the region.

Delta will operate the route using its modern Airbus A321neo fleet. These aircraft deliver an enhanced passenger experience while promoting environmental sustainability through improved fuel efficiency.

The airline’s commitment to eco-friendly operations earned it top marks from the Port of Seattle, which recognized Delta for operating the highest percentage of fuel-efficient aircraft at SEA during 2023.

Passengers on these flights will enjoy complimentary Delta Sync Wi-Fi (available to SkyMiles Members) and access to Delta Studio’s extensive entertainment library, featuring movies, TV shows, music, and podcasts.

Growing Seattle’s Global Reach

Seattle serves as Delta’s gateway to Asia, offering direct flights to Tokyo (HND), Seoul (ICN), Shanghai (PVG), and the recently added Taipei (TPE). As Seattle’s leading international carrier, Delta provides the region’s most extensive selection of nonstop long-haul international destinations.

Starting spring 2025, these Asian routes will upgrade to Airbus A350 aircraft, featuring 306 seats per plane. This change will add approximately 55,000 yearly seats compared to the current A330 service and boost premium seating options by 40% in Delta One and Delta Premium Select cabins.

Seattle’s facilities will also expand, with a new Delta One Lounge opening in summer 2025. This addition, making Seattle the fourth airport nationwide to offer this premium space, will accompany a new 23,000-square-foot Sky Club on Concourse A.

“Our 90-year presence in Seattle continues to strengthen through strategic growth and enhanced services,” said Joan Wang, Delta’s managing director for the Pacific Northwest. “As Seattle’s largest international airline, we remain dedicated to connecting Washington state with global destinations while showcasing the region’s unique appeal.”

Delta marked its 90th anniversary in Seattle in December 2023, a history dating back to the start of operations by Northwest Airways (later Northwest Airlines) in 1933.

Today, the airline boasts 3,000 Seattle-based employees who operate nearly 170 peak-day departures from SEA to more than 50 destinations worldwide.
