A Delta Air Lines flight inbound from Keflavík declared an emergency whilst on approach to Detroit on 7 August 2024.
Delta Air Lines flight DL237, a Boeing 757-200 operating a long haul service from Keflavík International Airport (KEF) declared an emergency whilst in the descent to the destination.
The flight had commenced its descent in preparation for an approach to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DFW) when flight crew squawked transponder code 7700.

The nature of the emergency prompting the transponder code transmission is not yet known. The aircraft continued with its descent and approach and landed without incident at Detroit (DFW).
The flight was approaching Detroit in the descent passing through flight level FL240 (24,000 feet) when code 7700 was transmitted.

Flight data shows that flight DL237 made an on-time departure out of Keflavík International Airport. Departure time was logged at 0905 local time on 7 August.
The flight then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL380 for the transatlantic service to Michigan.
The let down and initial descent procedures were conducted normally until flight crew declared the emergency at 1428 UTC.
The aircraft conducting the DL237 service from Iceland was a Boeing 757-200, registered N823DX. this is a 19.7-year-olds aircraft belonging to the carrier Delta Air Lines. It has been in operational service with the airline since April 2015.
Prior to its service with Delta, the aircraft was operated by the Chinese carrier Shanghai airlines since its initial delivery in April 2005.
