Delta Air Lines 757 From Atlanta Diverts After Losing Cabin Pressure

A Delta Air Lines 757-300 operating between Atlanta (ATL) and Salt Lake City (SLC) made a diversion to Casper, WY after losing cabin pressure on 20 June

A Delta Air Lines Boeing 757-300 operating between Atlanta, GA and Salt Lake City,UT made an unscheduled diversion to Casper, WY after losing cabin pressure on 21 June 2024.

Delta Air Lines flight DL653 was in transit through Denver air space when flight crew reported the loss of cabin pressurisation.

An emergency descent was then initiated to 10,000 feet as occupants donned oxygen masks.

Following the depressurisation event, flight crew made the decision to initiate a diversion north to Casper, WY.

The aircraft then landed without further incident at Casper/Natrona County International Airport (CPR) just under 30 minutes after the in-flight event.

A formal emergency was not declared. The aircraft conducted the diversion and subsequent landing at Casper under normal operating procedures.

The operating crew advised air traffic control that emergency services were not required for the landing.

Flight Details

Flight data shows that flight DL653 made an on-time departure out of Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Departure was recorded as 1749 local time.

The flight then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL340 (34,000 feet). The north-westerly service to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) was then negotiated.

Flight crew had initiated a further climb to flight level FL360 when the cabin depressurisation event occurred.

Following the de-pressurised percent to 10,000 feet, the northerly diversion was then taken up and conducted at reduced altitude to Casper (CPR).

The aircraft conducting the DL653 service from Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) was a Boeing 757-300, registered N594NW.

This is a 20.9-year-old aircraft belonging to the US carrier Delta Air Lines. It has been in operational service with the airline since October 2008.

Prior to its service with Delta, the aircraft was operated by Northwest Airlines since its initial delivery in August 2003.
