News has been revealed from Embraer stating that they are in talks to sell it’s Embraer E2 regional aircraft to LATAM and GOL.
The Brazilian manufacturer has been wanting to secure more sales of the aircraft type over the last few months.
Without further ado, let’s get into it…
Embraer Engaging LATAM & GOL…
As per AeroTime, it is understood that Embraer is currently engaging LATAM & GOL to get them to purchase some of their E2 jets.
As a reminder, the E2 program consists of the following aircraft:
- E175-E2
- E190-E2
- E195-E2
Such news about this was revealed at the manufacturer’s media day, with other journalists from the sector.
Embraer believes that the E2 family can fill the gap for airlines such as LATAM & GOL, whilst delivery delays from the likes of Boeing & Airbus are being dealt with.
This point is strengthened is the fact that the Brazilian planemaker will deliver an aircraft next year instead of 2029.
CEO Francisco Gomes Neto had this to say regarding this:
“This is a moment where there is interest and more focus on this segment”.
“Narrow bodies have a full order book until the end of the decade, so there is a great opportunity for Embraer to grow.”
Whether Embraer will build an aircraft similar in scope and size to Boeing & Airbus’ 737 MAX & A320neo, Neto said:
“Our teams are always studying alternatives for the future”.
“Our strategic plans until 2030 were made based on our current products, and at this moment there is no concrete plan to develop any aircraft in this segment.”
There has been speculation that Embraer would join this market, but for now, the priority is to be cash-positive by 2025.
They Would Join Competitors Azul…
If LATAM & GOL do proceed with aircraft from the Embraer E2 family, they would join Brazilian competitor Azul.
Data from Planespotters.net shows that Azul currently has 21 E195-E2 aircraft, and are expecting another 12 in the coming months.
Furthermore, the Brazilian carrier has also retired around 23 of their E195-E1 aircraft, which has made way for the E2.
Operations with the aircraft type have been strong, with just two aircraft of theirs parked at present in the E2 family.
However, there is a concern factor at this point.
As per Simple Flying, a big customer of the E2 being KLM, has had to park some of their E195-E2s at Twente Airport over Pratt & Whitney engine issues.
The Pratt & Whitney saga will no doubt play on the minds of LATAM & GOL as they make their decision on the program.
Overall…
In conclusion, it will be interesting to see if LATAM & GOL go for the Embraer E2 family.
If they are wanting to fill the gap regionally, then they may go down the Azul route with E195-E2s.
Furthermore, Pratt & Whitney engine issues will be a deciding factor in this, particularly with the issues being experienced presently.
Looking ahead, we have the Farnborough Air Show starting in four weeks’ time, so this could be an indicator.
All we can do is wait for the airshow to start to see whether the orders will be unveiled then.
