Cork Airport, Ireland’s fastest-growing aviation hub, is set for a significant upgrade with the launch of a €200 million Capital Development Plan by daa.
Announced by An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin TD, this ambitious initiative is the most significant for the airport in nearly 25 years.
It aims to future-proof the airport’s infrastructure, drive economic growth, and enhance connectivity for the South of Ireland.
The plan positions Cork Airport, the nation’s second-largest, to handle over 5 million passengers annually, cementing its role as a vital economic engine.
A Blueprint for Growth
The Capital Development Plan outlines a series of upgrades to boost capacity and improve the passenger experience. Key projects include:
- New Mezzanine Floor: A state-of-the-art passenger security screening area to streamline check-ins.
- Expanded Duty-Free Shop: A larger retail space to enhance shopping options.
- Upgraded Executive Lounge: A spacious, modern lounge for premium travelers.
- Additional Boarding Gates: More gates to accommodate growing flight demand.
- New Solar Farm: A 1.7Mw solar facility to promote sustainability.
- Car Park Expansion: Increased parking to meet rising passenger numbers.
- New Pier Development: Demolition of the old terminal and control tower. This will make way for a new pier with extra boarding gates and aircraft parking stands.
These enhancements will ensure Cork Airport remains a hassle-free, passenger-friendly hub while supporting its growth trajectory.
Construction on the mezzanine floor and a new oversized baggage security facility will begin this summer, with the solar farm already in the planning phase and expected to start later this year.

Economic and Regional Impact
Cork Airport is a cornerstone of the South of Ireland’s economy, contributing over €1 billion annually and supporting 12,000 jobs.
With passenger numbers surging by 50% over the past decade, the airport offers vital connectivity to major European hubs. It connects with London Heathrow, Amsterdam Schiphol, and Paris Charles de Gaulle, as well as serving direct routes across the UK and Europe.
