In a move to enhance regional connectivity, Colombian state-owned airline SATENA has welcomed a new ATR 42-600 to its fleet.

This latest addition, set to commence operations in early October, marks an important waypoint in SATENA’s mission to connect underserved communities across Colombia.

ATR, a global leader in regional aviation, delivered the aircraft, showcasing its commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for regional air travel.

The ATR 42-600 boasts state-of-the-art technology and offers the lowest cost per trip in its category, making it an ideal choice for SATENA’s operations.

Boosting Domestic Market Presence

The new ATR 42-600 joins SATENA’s existing fleet of 10 ATR aircraft, which includes:

  • Two ATR 72-600
  • Four ATR 42-600
  • Four ATR 42-500

This latest acquisition is particularly noteworthy as it’s the first ATR aircraft directly purchased by SATENA from the manufacturer. The expanded fleet will allow SATENA to strengthen its position in the domestic market and extend its services to more remote towns and villages across Colombia.

Mayor General Oscar Zuluaga, President of SATENA, emphasized the importance of ATR aircraft in fulfilling the airline’s mission. He stated, “The introduction of ATR into our fleet 10 years ago has been decisive in fostering development and connectivity throughout Colombia.”

Zuluaga highlighted the superior performance, unrivaled versatility, and efficiency of ATR aircraft. These qualities have proven crucial in reaching remote regions, ensuring reliable operations, optimal fuel efficiency, and the ability to land on short runways.

Connecting Regional Communities

Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, CEO of ATR, was proud of the partnership forged with SATENA. She noted that ATR aircraft excel at connecting smaller communities to major hubs, facilitating business and tourism, and providing access to remote areas.

“Together, we are not just connecting destinations; we are enabling access to a world of possibilities,” Laude remarked, underscoring the broader impact of their collaboration.

Strengthening Existing Routes and Expanding Services

With the arrival of the new ATR 42-600, SATENA plans to enhance its existing routes by increasing seat capacity to various destinations, including:

  • Guainía
  • Vaupés
  • Inírida
  • Vichada
  • Mitú
  • Puerto Carreño
  • Pacific coast regions

Key connections will also be bolstered, including Bogotá-Quibdó, Cali-Guapi, Medellín-Bahía Solano and Medellín-Mitú.

ATR aircraft have played a crucial role in SATENA’s growth. The regional fleet has enabled the airline to now operate 142 routes to 52 destinations. Notably, 83 of these routes are designated as social routes, vital for ensuring mobility in remote communities.

SATENA covers its ATR fleet with a Global Maintenance Agreement to ensure the highest standards of performance and reliability. This comprehensive package includes:

  • Lease stock
  • Standard exchange of line replaceable units
  • Propeller blade repair services

By investing in this new ATR 42-600 and expanding its fleet, SATENA firms its commitment to serving Colombia’s diverse communities. This strategic move promises to bring increased connectivity and economic opportunities. Importantly, it means an improved quality of life to regions previously underserved by air travel.
