Cologne Airport has this week announced the handling of 1.7m passengers during the busy Summer holiday peak.
The airport has given the full low-down on how well they have performed over this busy traditional period.

Cologne Airport handled 1.7m passengers during the busy Summer holiday peak period, which lasted around six and a half weeks.
Their busiest day was the first Sunday in August, with 43,000 passengers handled.
Last weekend saw the German airport handle around 120,000 passengers.
Furthermore, the most popular vacation countries for Cologne Airport are as follows:
- Turkey – 500,000 passengers.
- Spain – 360,000 passengers.
- Italy – 141,000 passengers.
Moreover, the most popular destinations specifically were:
- Antalya – 230,000 passengers.
- Palma de Mallorca – 191,000 passengers.
- Istanbul – 122,000 passengers.
Busy Peaks Expected to Continue, Says CEO…
Thilo Schmid, the CEO of Cologne Airport has commented on the high volumes, and stated he is expecting more busy peak periods to come:
“The summer vacations always mean very full terminals and particularly challenging weeks.”
“My special thanks go to all our employees and our partners for their commitment and their great work”.
“We are also expecting a high volume of passengers in the coming weeks, which will continue into the fall.”
“In September and October, we are again expecting more than one million passengers”.
Schmid’s words are backed up by the point that Marabu will be opening a new base at the airport.
Furthermore, Marabu’s operations from Cologne Airport are expected to operate flights to the Canary Islands and Egypt.
Moreover, Eurowings will be operating new direct flights to Dubai from October 28 and Jeddah from November 5.
