U.S. President Donald Trump has named Chris Rocheleau as acting administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Following a tragic plane crash near Washington, D.C., the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a new acting administrator: Chris Rocheleau.

He assumed the role on 30 January 2025, stepping into a critical position at a challenging time. Rocheleau’s appointment by US President Donald Trump signals a focus on experience and stability within the agency.  

Chris Rocheleau: 20 Years of Industry Experience


Chris Rocheleau is no stranger to the FAA. He brings over two decades of experience within the organization, giving him a deep understanding of its operations and challenges.

He has served in various key roles, including deputy administrator, demonstrating his commitment to aviation safety and efficiency. This extensive background makes him well-suited to lead the FAA during this crucial period.  

Before his appointment as acting administrator, Rocheleau served as the chief operating officer of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA).

Airlines for America (A4A) President and CEO Nicholas E. Calio extended his comments on the appointment.

“We are grateful Chris Rocheleau has been named Acting FAA Administrator by President Trump. Our nation is reeling after the tragedy involving a commercial airplane and a military helicopter near DCA, and Chris’s proven, solid experience will provide smart leadership at this vital agency, especially during this critical time for our country.”

“While the investigation is just beginning, there are other challenges facing the aviation industry — the air traffic controller staffing shortage, aging FAA technologies, capacity constraints and more.”

General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) president and CEO, Pete Bunce also expressed his support.

“Mr. Rocheleau’s in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of this complex organization, gained through strong administrative experience in several divisions within the FAA, will serve our nation well, particularly as the FAA responds to and supports the NTSB’s midair investigation at Reagan National Airport.”

National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) President and CEO Ed Bolen added further comment. “He has demonstrated excellence at every level in the government, military and aviation industry.”
