Starting 30 November 2025, China Southern Airlines will relaunch its seasonal direct flights between Perth Airport and Guangzhou.

The airline plans to operate three weekly services using its modern Boeing 787-9 aircraft. This move strengthens the connection between Western Australia and China.

It promises significant benefits for tourism, trade, and the local Perth economy.

A Win for Western Australia

Kate Holsgrove, Perth Airport’s Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer, welcomed the announcement, calling it a major win for Western Australia. “The return of this direct service is fantastic news for our economy,” she said.

“The airline will run these flights until March 2026, but we’re already collaborating with the State Government to deepen our partnership with China Southern Airlines. Our goal is to increase flight frequency in the coming years.”

The partnership with China Southern Airlines is vital for Western Australia. It supports streamlined travel and trade links with China, the state’s fourth-largest international visitor market.

In 2024, 68,000 Chinese visitors contributed $302 million to the local economy. Boosting flight capacity to China is a key priority for Western Australia’s tourism sector.

Restoration of Direct China Connections

Perth Airport is also working closely with Tourism Western Australia to restore direct connections to mainland China. These flights are expected to drive growth in tourism, business, education, and export sectors, delivering widespread economic benefits.

Additionally, Perth Airport recently signed a Sister Airport agreement with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. This partnership aims to foster collaboration, enhance connectivity, and promote tourism and trade between the two cities.

Western Australia’s Tourism Minister, the Hon. Reece Whitby, expressed enthusiasm for the resumed service. “We’re thrilled to welcome back China Southern Airlines’ seasonal flights between Guangzhou and Perth,” he said.

“China is a crucial market for us, and this direct route makes it easier for visitors to experience Western Australia’s stunning landscapes and unique attractions.”

The minister emphasized the importance of this service for strengthening ties with China. “We hope to see this route expand in the future,” he added. “By improving aviation links, we’re creating more opportunities for our tourism industry and boosting the state’s economy.”

The return of these flights marks a significant step in reconnecting Western Australia with China. With ongoing efforts to enhance this partnership, the future looks bright for increased connectivity and economic growth.
