A cellphone fire occurred on a JetBlue flight from Los Angeles to Boston this week, prompting a quick response from the crew onboard.

Information has been released pertinent to the incident at hand, which we will get into in this article.

JetBlue Flight B6988 – Los Angeles to Boston…

JetBlue flight B6988, which suffered the incident with the cellphone fire, is a routine scheduled flight between Los Angeles & Boston.

Furthermore, the aircraft involved in the incident was N985JT.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N985JT is a 6.9 year old Airbus A321ceo that was delivered to the airline back in October 2017.

Of the Airbus A321ceo variant, JetBlue has 63 of them in their fleet.

Moreover, of that 63, all but one are in active service, with an average fleet age of 8.2 years.

As well as the A321ceo, the airline has the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:

  • 35 Airbus A220-300s.
  • 130 Airbus A320s.
  • 36 Airbus A321neos.
  • 23 Embraer E190s.

JetBlue flight B6988, which suffered the incident with the cellphone fire, departed Los Angeles at 2217 local time on August 19 and tracked east towards Boston.

Furthermore, as per The Aviation Herald, it is understood this incident took place near the flight’s destination.

It is understood the cellphone emitted a thick smoke which spread through the cabin.

From there, flight attendants donned with fire extinguishers put the fire out, and the aircraft landed safely without further incident at 0640 local time on August 20.

No Damage To The Aircraft Following the Cellphone Fire…

Data from RadarBox.com suggests that there was no damage to the aircraft following the cellphone fire on JetBlue flight B6988 Los Angeles-Boston.

Around four hours after landing, the aircraft was back in the air operating commercial flights.

It has operated flights to San Francisco and New York JFK following the incident so far.
