Cathay Pacific to Resume Direct Hong Kong-Rome Flights in Summer 2025

Cathay Pacific will re-introduce direct flights between Hong Kong and Rome starting 5 June, marking a further European network expansion.

Cathay Pacific will re-introduce direct flights between Hong Kong and Rome starting June 5, 2025, marking a significant expansion of its European network.

The new three-times-weekly summer seasonal service represents the airline’s second direct route to Italy. It complements the well-established Milan service, which will increase from five weekly flights to daily departures this summer season.

Four Decades of Service to Rome


“Our connection with Italy dates back nearly four decades to 1986 when we first flew to Rome,” said Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau.

“We understand how much our customers have wanted this route to return. We’re thrilled to bring them back to Italy’s magnificent capital this summer.”

“From business travelers to tourists and Jubilee pilgrims, we’re ready to deliver our signature world-class service to all passengers on this highly anticipated route.”

Airbus A350 Operations

The Rome flights will utilize Cathay Pacific’s modern Airbus A350-900 aircraft, featuring state-of-the-art amenities across all cabin classes.

Business class passengers will enjoy fully flat beds for optimal comfort on long-haul flights. Meanhile, Premium Economy offers extra spacious seating with enhanced recline.

The Economy cabin provides comfortable seating with personal entertainment systems and attentive service throughout the journey.

Return to Rome

The timing of Cathay Pacific’s return to Rome coincides perfectly with the Catholic Church’s 2025 Year of Jubilee. This is a momentous occasion that takes place every 25 years.

This special celebration will feature numerous religious and cultural events throughout Vatican City and Rome during the year, attracting visitors from around the globe.

Cathay Pacific Network Expansion


The Cathay Group continues to strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a leading international aviation hub through strategic network expansion.

Rome joins an impressive lineup of five other new destinations announced for 2025: Hyderabad (launching in March), Dallas (April), Munich (June), and Brussels (August).

Additionally, the Group’s low-cost carrier HK Express has already launched flights to Sendai in January. This ambitious expansion demonstrates the Group’s commitment to growth, with Cathay Pacific and HK Express jointly aiming to serve 100 destinations worldwide within 2025.

The new Rome service offers particular appeal for business travelers and tourists from both Asia and Europe.

European travelers can seamlessly access the Cathay Group’s extensive Asia-Pacific network through its Hong Kong hub.

This includes convenient connections to 19 destinations across mainland China served by both Cathay Pacific and HK Express. The route also provides Italian and European businesses with enhanced connectivity to key markets throughout Asia.
