This week, it has been revealed that Cathay Pacific will move to Terminal 6 at New York JFK Airport.
The Hong Kong-based carrier has placed it’s commitment to the new terminal which is opening up in 2026.

Cathay Pacific & New York JFK Terminal 6: What You Need to Know…
Cathay Pacific will move into the brand new Terminal 6 at New York JFK in 2026.
In 2026, the first five gates will be open to passengers, and will include a dedicated lounge from the airline.
Furthermore, it will be the airline’s first dedicated lounge in the NYC market and it’s second in the United States.
It will be a 10,000 square foot lounge providing as unique of a guest experience as possible.
JFK Millennium Partners outlined what this new Terminal will eventually have:
- 10 gates, of which nine will accommodate widebody aircraft
- Less than 5 minute average walking distance from the TSA security screening exit to gates
- State-of-the-art automated baggage system, customs/border control facilities, and the latest TSA screening technologies
- One of the longest departures curbs at JFK, with airline-branded passenger drop-off zones
- Up to five airline lounges, in addition to a new arrivals lounge
- Digital concierge services
- A new ground transportation center
- A curated collection of New York City-inspired artwork featuring local and international artists, curated by the Public Art Fund in partnership with JMP and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey
- Sustainably-sourced building materials, rooftop solar power, and energy efficient systems and operating practices throughout the Terminal
- Sustainability certifications for LEED (silver or gold), Envision and SITES underway
At the moment, Cathay Pacific uses Terminal 8 at New York JFK Airport, with the airline using the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 for their flights.

Cathay Pacific Senior Vice President, Americas Chris van den Hooven said the following on this announcement:
“This represents a huge milestone in Cathay Pacific’s 28 years of connecting New York with our home, Hong Kong and from 1 July it will be 20 years since we commenced our regular non-stop service.”

In conclusion, this represents a big step for the airport as well as for the Hong Kong-based carrier.
JFK is undergoing significant change at the moment, and the existing operators are wanting to take advantage of that.
For example, SAS has committed to moving into the New Terminal One, which is also slated to open in 2026.
The New York-based airport is going through some exciting developments at present, and all eyes will be on any additional announcements made.
