During the initial climb after takeoff flight crew reported experiencing a compressor stall on the right-hand engine.
According to the online source Aviation Herald, power was reduced to idle thrust on the engine after flight crew noted the rise in internal temperature.
Flight crew elected to make a precautionary return to the origin airport and commenced a descent. During the descent, vibrations from the right-hand engine prompted flight crew to carry out an engine shutdown.
A holding procedure was then entered in order to burn off fuel to permit the return landing. The aircraft was able to land safely after conducting fuel burn off procedures for approximately two hours.
A subsequent report by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) reported the presence of metal fragments in the engine’s exhaust during post flight maintenance. The debris was indicative of an internal engine failure.
