Brussels Airlines Hits Record Profits, Eyes Ambitious Growth in 2025

Brussels Airlines has announced a stellar financial performance for 2024, achieving a record adjusted EBIT of 59 million euros.

This strong result represents an 11% increase compared to the previous year. It underscores the airline’s robust strategic direction and operational efficiency.

Despite facing initial hurdles, the airline’s resilience and adaptability have propelled it to new heights.

2024: Challenges Navigated, Results Delivered

The year began with challenges that initially impacted financial projections. However, Brussels Airlines swiftly adapted, demonstrating the efficacy of its operational model.

When operations ran smoothly, the airline consistently delivered strong financial results. While the number of flights decreased by 2% compared to 2023, the available seat capacity (ASK) saw a 1% increase.

This strategic adjustment, coupled with the addition of an Airbus 330 to the long-haul fleet, significantly boosted capacity on intercontinental routes. Despite the inability to secure a wet-lease partner for European network expansion during the summer, the airline effectively optimized its resources.

Operational Performance

Brussels Airlines distinguished itself as one of Europe’s most reliable airlines in 2024. According to Cirium data, it ranked fourth in punctuality among European network operators.

Furthermore, American consumer platform Airhelp recognized Brussels Airlines as the “Best Airline” globally, citing its exceptional on-time performance, efficient claim processing, and superior customer experience.

This operational reliability, particularly on short- and medium-haul routes, translated into lower irregularity costs. Combined with the increased long-haul seat capacity, these factors contributed to the airline’s record profitability.

Growth and Future Outlook

“We faced numerous challenges, especially in the first half of the year, which hindered our planned operations. However, the second half of 2024 was highly successful,” stated Nina Öwerdieck, Chief Financial Officer of Brussels Airlines.

“Demand remains strong in 2025, and we have ambitious growth plans. We are creating more opportunities to connect people, cultures, and economies, and we are creating more jobs, welcoming a new colleague almost daily.”

Brussels Airlines achieved an adjusted EBIT margin of 3.8%. Building on a solid cost base to ensure sustainable profitability, the airline aims to gradually increase capacity to reach its target margin of 8%, with promising early results in 2025.

To support this growth, Brussels Airlines will add two aircraft to its fleet: one Airbus 330 for long-haul flights and one Airbus 320 for short- and medium-haul routes.

Additionally, a wet-lease agreement with Air Baltic will introduce four Airbus 220 aircraft during the peak summer season. These expansions position Brussels Airlines as the fastest-growing airline within the Lufthansa Group.

Celebrating a Century of Connectivity

In 2025, Brussels Airlines will commemorate 100 years of air travel between Belgium and Africa, a testament to its enduring connection with the continent. The airline’s extensive sub-Saharan African network remains a vital part of its identity.

Looking ahead, Brussels Airlines is committed to enhancing passenger experience. Plans include the renovation of THE LOFT, its award-winning lounge at Brussels Airport’s A-zone. It will also see the introduction of new long-haul cabin designs starting in 2027.

This year, passengers across all classes on long-haul flights will enjoy product enhancements, including expanded beverage options in Economy Class and a revamped service concept in Business Class.

“At Brussels Airlines, we are proud of our record profit in 2024,” said Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Brussels Airlines. “2025 will be an exciting year. Celebrating 100 years of connecting Belgium with Africa is a moment of pride for all of us.”

“To prepare for the next 100 years, we will continue investing in our passengers and employees. We have great perspectives, and this is a team achievement.”

With a focus on operational excellence, strategic growth, and customer satisfaction, Brussels Airlines is poised for further success this year.
