February 2025 has delivered a fresh set of aviation performance benchmarks. Cirium‘s latest Global On-Time Performance Report has seen British Airways make a reappearance in performance rankings.

This month’s data reveals Aeromexico remains strong as the world’s most punctual airline. Meanwhile, the notable resurgence from British Airways offers a positive signal for UK aviation.

Aeromexico Leads the Way

Aeromexico has ascended to the top spot, achieving an impressive 92.87% on-time arrival rate. This remarkable performance solidifies their commitment to reliable service. It cements their position as a global leader in punctuality.

Following closely behind is Iberia, with a strong 91.25% on-time score, further highlighting the strength of the oneworld alliance. Qatar Airways secured the third position, with 87.24% of flights arriving as scheduled.

British Airways’ Remarkable Climb: A UK Milestone

Perhaps the most compelling narrative of this report is the resurgence of British Airways. For the first time in a considerable period, a UK carrier has broken into the global top 10. British Airways secured fourth place with an 86.89% on-time performance.

This represents a substantial improvement from January’s 78.10% and December’s 70.12%, showcasing the airline’s successful operational enhancements. Furthermore, Lufthansa claimed fifth position, achieving 86.66% on-time arrivals.

European Punctuality: Iberia Reigns Supreme

In the European theatre, Iberia once again excelled, claiming the top spot for punctuality with their 91.25% on-time performance.

Austrian Airlines followed closely, achieving 90.65%. Air Europa, Vueling, and SAS also demonstrated strong performance, each exceeding 87% on-time arrivals.

British Airways secured sixth place in the European rankings, a testament to their improved operational efficiency.

Airports: Doha Leads, Heathrow Gains Ground

On the airport front, Doha’s Hamad International Airport (pictured below) earned the title of the most punctual large airport globally, with 88.98% of flights arriving on time.

Mexico City and Palma de Mallorca followed closely behind. Notably, London Heathrow Airport made its way into the top 10, securing eighth position.

This achievement underscores Heathrow’s efforts to maintain operational efficiency despite the complexities of high-volume traffic.

European Cancellations on the Rise

While punctuality improvements are encouraging, the report also highlights a concerning trend: a 12% increase in flight cancellations across Europe.

February saw 8,261 cancellations, compared to 7,350 in January. This increase suggests potential operational challenges and external factors impacting European air travel.

Summary: Key Takeaways
