British Airways flight BA778, an Airbus A319 bound for Stockholm from London, has declared an emergency, squawking code 7700 whilst enroute.

A British Airways flight operating from London to Stockholm has declared an emergency whilst enroute.

British Airways flight BA778, an Airbus A319 declared the emergency with transponder code 7700 while outbound in the cruise.

Having declared the emergency whilst in the cruise, flight BA778 has commenced a descent and appears to be making good an amended track towards Billund, Denmark.

The nature of the emergency is not yet known.

Update 12:08 UTC: Return to Normal Squawk


Having declared an emergency earlier this afternoon, flight BA778 has now returned to a normal squawk and climbed to flight level FL300 (30,000 feet). The aircraft is currently in the Copenhagen Flight Information region and appears to be continuing with the diversion track.

We will continue to monitor the flight progress.

The flight is now re-established in cruising flight at FL300 under a normal squawk code. The aircraft is now continuing on an adjusted flight track which will take it over Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport.

Update 12:35 UTC: Swedish Airspace


British Airways flight BA778 is now transiting Swedish airspace, and continuing to track for the destination Stockholm-Arlanda Airport (ARN).

Flight data shows that flight BA778 made a departure out of London Heathrow Airport (LHR) at 12:21 local time this afternoon. The flight then set course normally and climbed to FL370.

Flight crew declared an emergency shortly after reaching cruising altitude and began a descent, adjusting course. They squawked transponder code 7700 as the flight descended through FL330 at 12:51 local time.

The flight subsequently return to normal squawk at 12:57 local time, and re-established cruising flight at FL300.

Flight BA778 has now left cruising flight, and is on descent for the destination Stockholm-Arlanda.
