British Airways B787-10 Lagos-London Declares Emergency

British Airways flight BA74, a B787-10 inbound from Lagos, Nigeria has declared an emergency whilst approaching London Heathrow.
In the last hour or so, British Airways flight BA189, originally bound for Newark, made a u-turn and emergency return to London Heathrow.

A British Airways Boeing 787-10 inbound from Lagos, Nigeria has declared a emergency approaching London.

British Airways flight BA74, operated by a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, declared the emergency with squawk code 7700 whilst in transit through French airspace en route to London Heathrow Airport.

Flight BA74 has now left cruising altitude on descent for the destination London Heathrow Airport (LHR). Flight crew are maintaining emergency transponder code 7700 for approach priority. The nature of the emergency is not yet known.

British Airways flight BA74 is now established in the latter stages of its descent for London Heathrow, passing through FL150.

Weather for the flight’s arrival is currently visual conditions (VFR) with visibility 10 kilometres or more and no cloud. Active runway for flight arrivals is runway 27.

Flight BA74 is now under vectoring and turning finals for an approach to runway 27 LHR, passing through 4,000 feet. The flight has now reverted to a normal squawk code for the approach to London Heathrow.

Having declared an emergency inbound from Lagos, Nigeria earlier this morning. British Airways flight BA74 has now landed at London Heathrow. Flight crew returned to a normal squawk code through the latter stages of the descent.

The aircraft conducting this morning’s service from Lagos was a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, registered G-ZBLC. This is a 4.4 year old widebody aircraft belonging to the national carrier British Airways. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in December 2022.
